Matt Hall Supports $100 Million for Police Recruitment

As Michigan cities wrestle with a violent crime crisis and understaffed police departments struggle to keep their communities safe, our law enforcement should have the staff and tools they need to prevent crime.

State Rep. Matt Hall supported legislation to provide $100 million dollars for police recruitment, retention, and equipment. The people of Kalamazoo and Allegan counties deserve safe communities to live, work, and go to school in.

As crime rates rise, Democrats in Lansing have proposed enabling the majority of Michigan prisoners to request reduced sentences after only 10 years. This legislation would permit serial killers and other murderers with life sentences without parole to have their remaining sentences shortened or removed entirely.

Under the bills, more than 17,000 dangerous criminals in Michigan would be eligible to request a lower sentence in the future, including more than 5,100 murderers, 1,700 criminal sexual offenders, and 1,000 armed robbers who would be immediately eligible for resentencing. The bills would make it difficult for victims and law enforcement to prevent a violent criminal from getting a reduced sentence and returning to the streets to put victims and other Michigan residents at risk.

State Rep. Hall opposes this legislation, which is dangerous and would put the safety of Kalamazoo and Allegan County citizens at risk.
